It was a peaceful night after a busy evening.
Jan's families were here to visit as well as Liz's family Terri and Wes and a couple of guest off and on. Ken stayed the night with me in the Kirchhoff guest retreat. Some of the time the grandkids were here, they were entertained downstairs and I think some of their amusement came from flipping switches on the monitor. I will be double checking the channels from now on. I was thinking something was wrong with the monitor because I would almost have to lay it on my ear to listen to Kim's room. The night before I could hear Kim clearly so I could go up to attend to her. Last night my internal alarm woke up to do the checking even though all seemed quiet and peaceful. It is amazing how the natural compensations take place.
Max the dog is a bit confused by the monitor too. He is a one woman, one man dog. He knows the sound of Jess’ truck or whines to be let out if he knows Jess in on the farm. When Kim is in the house, you will find him sitting next to her. Last night Luke was on the couch next to Kim’s chair and rubbing her arm. Max needed to get between them to check Luke out. When Kim told Max that Luke was OK and one of the good guys, Max circled twice and went to lay behind Kim’s chair. This morning the monitor is working again and Max goes from monitor to Kim’s bedroom. Just as I was thinking that I may need to slip him a little anti-anxiety pill, he settled on the real deal and is beside Kim’s bed.
Today looks like it is going to be rainy. That means we will probably see more of Shane in the house. Shane’s sister, Cheryl will be coming down for the day and it sounds like Shane’s folks will make a visit. So he will be able to have some “Kirchhoff” time today. Family is a good thing.
Tomorrow, Kim’s oldest and youngest will have birthdays. Jess will be the big 3-0 and his son Ryan will be 1. Ryan looks just like his daddy’s toddler pictures. The only difference is….. and if you can believe this….. Jess was a puny, scrawny kid. He was so light weight that after carrying around my 2 chubby little guys (Gabe and Luke), I almost threw Jess up in the air when I picked him up. My toddlers would gang up on Jess, tackle and pile on him. I was afraid for the skinny little guy. That did not last for many years. There were lots of black eyes, bumps and bruises in the years to come, but rarely on Jess. Today they have a healthy respect for tomorrow’s little birthday guy.
Hope you all have a great day,
Jan
